Around one quarter of self-employed persons said in 2017 that they were planning to hire one or more employees in the next 12 months or so. Even more self-employed persons planned to use subcontractors. Statistics Finland’s report Self-employed persons in Finland 2017 comprehensively studies the situation of different self-employed persons.

20 Dec 2018 China and the United States produce one-half of book titles in the whole world

In absolute numbers, most books are produced in China, around half a million titles in 2016. The United States produced 339,000 titles in 2015.

We are revising the release of annual national accounts data. We will advance the release from July to June, when we will produce data concerning the previous year with a renewed data content.

The EFGS 2018 conference brings together more than 200 experts on statistics and geospatial information from more than 40 countries in Helsinki from 16 to 18 October 2018. The conference is hosted by Statistics Finland and the National Land Survey of Finland in collaboration with the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) and the EFGS.

According to an interview survey made by Taloustutkimus, 86 per cent of Finns know Statistics Finland.  A majority, or 85 per cent of Finns trust the statistics produced by Statistics Finland.

Publication of preliminary population statistics for August 2018 will be postponed. The new release date of the statistics is 25 September 2018. The previous release date was 21 September 2018. The delay was caused by technical problems related to transfer of data.

The International Statistical Poster Competition will continue until March 2019. The competition has three categories: secondary school students, upper secondary school/vocational education institution students and as a new series, university of applied sciences/university students studying for a bachelor's degree.
