Description of the data collection
In the monthly inquiry for accommodation statistics, data are collected on the available capacity of accommodation establishments, on the use of that capacity, and on the users of accommodation services. The statistical period used is a month.
The accommodation statistics are based on Regulation (EC) No 692/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council concerning European statistics on tourism that obliges the Member States to compile uniform statistics on the supply and demand of tourism.
From whom are data collected?
The inquiry covers accommodation establishments with at least 20 beds or caravan pitches with electrical connection points.
The data supply obligation of enterprises is based on the Finnish Statistics Act (280/2004, Section 14).
The Statistics Act obliges Statistics Finland to treat the data as confidential and use them only for statistical purposes.
What are the data used for?
The data are used to monitor and promote domestic tourism and inbound tourism to Finland, and for the planning of national and regional investments in tourism. The data are used by public administration, organisations, the business world, research institutes and educational institutions.
