Quarterly inquiry on international trade in services and international flows of goods
Description of the data collection
In the quarterly inquiry on international trade in services and international flows of goods data are collected about international trade in services carried out by enterprises and the general government. The data on international trade in services are used for compiling balance of payments and national accounts and for producing annual statistics on international trade in services. The data are collected quarterly and the collection is started immediately after the end of each quarter. The due date for responses is the 17th day of next month or the weekday following it.
The collected data are treated as confidential and they are used only for statistical purposes. The data collection is based on Regulation (EC) No 555/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council on Community statistics concerning balance of payments, international trade in services and foreign direct investment. The recommendations of the International Monetary Fund's Balance of Payments Manual (5th edition, 1993) are observed in the compilation of statistics.
The data are asked divided by service and country. The classification of services is in line with the Regulation and it covers manufacturing services, maintenance and repair services n.i.e., postal and courier services, transportservices, construction services, financing services, telecommunication, information technology and information services, royalties and licence fees, other business services, and personal, cultural and recreational services. The inquiry does not include tourism and insurance services. The classification of countries used for the statistics is that presented in the Regulation, which includes all the countries of the world.
From whom are data collected?
The quarterly inquiry on international trade in services and international flows of goods covers around thousand most significant enterprises and general government units engaged in international trade in services.
The quarterly inquiry on international trade in services is statutory on the basis of the Statistics Act (555/2012). Data protection is also applied in accordance with the Statistics Act.
What are the data used for?
The data are used as part of the annual inquiry on foreign trade in services.
