Turnover in service industries grew by 3.4 per cent in the last quarter of 2015

According to Statistics Finland, turnover generated by service industries grew by 3.4 per cent in October to December 2015 when compared with the respective period one year previously. One year before, turnover went up by 3.8 per cent over the same period. Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

In the last quarter of the year, turnover grew in nearly all main service industries, decreasing only in transportation and storage enterprises. Turnover grew fastest in the industries of arts, entertainment and recreation activities, which went up by 7.3 per cent from the corresponding period of the previous year.

In October to December, administrative and support service activities attained a brisk growth of 6.8 per cent. Of the sub-industries of administrative and support service activities, turnover developed most favourably in security and investigation enterprises, whose turnover went up by as much as 13.6 per cent from one year back. A strong growth of 13.4 per cent was also achieved in employment activities.

In the examination period, professional, scientific and technical activities also grew favourably, being 5.7 per cent up on one year back, while growth in the year before amounted to 3.2 per cent.

Of the main service industries, transportation and storage still developed weakest in the last quarter of 2015, as turnover there went down by 0.5 per cent from one year ago. Of the sub-industries, development was still poorest in land and rail transport, whose turnover declined by 0.3 per cent. Water transport has fared well, its turnover rising by 4.8 per cent, as has warehousing and support activities for transportation, where turnover also went up by 1.5 per cent year-on-year.
