Data on statistics on building and dwelling production for April to June are published in less detail than usual

The data of the statistics on building and dwelling production for April to June are exceptionally released with less extensive content than usual without a database table on permits for building projects, building starts and completed projects (12fy -- Building and dwelling production, 1995M01-2020M05).

A few key towns have notified a small part of their building permits granted during April and May in time to the Digital and Population Data Services Agency's system. Data for June are missing totally for some towns. This has an effect on the figures of building and dwelling production on the level of the whole country as well. Statistics Finland receives data on building projects weekly from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency as an automatic data transfer. These data include building permits granted and building projects started and completed. Data reported by municipalities on building projects started accumulate even in normal conditions at a delay to the Digital and Population Data Services Agency, but the delay now detected is exceptional.

The data on building permits missing from the data of the Digital and Population Data Services Agency have partly been supplemented based on the sum level statistical data separately supplied by towns to Statistics Finland. The data delivered separately have been combined manually to the now released statistical release, but as unit data are missing, the data cannot be entered into database format. As a result, the database table on building permits connected to the statistics cannot be produced for the time being. If the data transfer delays of towns continue in August to September as at present, Statistics Finland will not be able to produce the next release concerning the July data for the statistics on building and dwelling production on 22 September 2020.

Data on building project starts have accumulated better than data on building permits even from those municipalities for which absence of building permit notifications has been detected. The missing data on building permits also partly influence the estimated number of building project starts and thus the volume index of newbuilding. The data will be supplemented for the next publications.
