Producer Price Indices in December 2009

According to Statistics Finland, producer prices for manufactured products fell by 2.6 per cent, export prices by 4.0 per cent and import prices by 1.9 per cent from December 2008 to December 2009. The basic price index for domestic supply fell by 2.5 per cent in the year. The year-on-year change in the wholesale price index was -2.8 per cent.

Among the reasons for the fallen producer prices for manufactured products were reductions in the prices of metals, chemicals and electrical products from December 2008. The fall in the prices was slowed down especially by risen prices of non-ferrous metals, copper in particular, and by the risen cost of oil products.

From November to December, producer prices for manufactured products increased by 0.4 per cent. The rise in prices was particularly attributable to increases in the cost of electricity and in the price of pulp and non-ferrous metals.
