Road traffic accidents claimed 27 lives in August

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 684 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in August. In them, 27 persons were killed and 857 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 5 lower and that of persons injured 119 lower than in August 2007.

Of the persons who were killed, 10 travelled by passenger car, 9 by motorcycle and 5 by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 2 and cyclists 1. Among those who died, 20 were men and 7 were women.

A total of 4 449 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to August period. In them, 204 persons were killed and 5 589 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 48 lower and that of persons injured 80 lower than in the corresponding period of 2007. Of the person who were killed, 122 travelled by passenger car, 3 by van, 2 by lorry, 27 by motorcycle and 9 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 26 and cyclists 8. In addition, 7 other road user were killed.
