Road traffic accidents claimed 45 lives in October

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 646 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in October. In them, 45 persons were killed and 772 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 15 higher and that of persons injured 111 higher than in October 2007.

Of the persons who were killed, 32 travelled by passenger car, 4 by van, 1 by lorry an 1 by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 4 and cyclists 2. In addition, 1 other road user was killed. Among those who died, 33 were men and 12 were women.

A total of 5 783 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to October period. In them, 286 persons were killed and 7 183 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 33 lower and that of persons injured 124 higher than in the corresponding period of 2007. Of the person who were killed, 171 travelled by passenger car, 7 by van, 4 by lorry, 33 by motorcycle and 10 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 38 and cyclists 14. In addition, 9 other road user were killed.
