Industrial output grew by just under one per cent in September

According to Statistics Finland, seasonally adjusted industrial output was 0.8 per cent higher in September 2007 than twelve months earlier. Industrial output grew in several main industries in September 2007 when compared with the previous year. Output in manufacturing was 2.3 per cent up on the year before. The highest growth was recorded in the chemical industry and in other manufacturing and other metal industry. In mining and quarrying, output decreased by nearly 40 per cent and in energy supply by good 7 per cent.

These data derive from the volume index of industrial output which describes the development in the volume of the industrial output of the largest establishments located in Finland. The preliminary data are based on a sample of roughly 1,000 of the largest establishments within their respective industries.

Revised data for September 2007 will be published at 9 am on 30 November 2007 in connection with industrial output data for October 2007. Because of the method used, seasonally adjusted figures for previous months may change even if the original figures do not become revised. The seasonally adjusted figures will also be adjusted for working days.

Statistics Finland's preliminary volume index of industrial output describes the volume of commodities produced for export or for the domestic market by industrial establishments operating in Finland. In recent years the preliminary figures of the volume index have tended to go up in final revisions.
