1 December 2008  Handbook for users of Consumer Price Index is now available online free-of-charge
Statistics Finland has published its handbook for the users of the Consumer Price Index on the Internet. The handbook explains how the Consumer Price Index is compiled and gives guidance in its use by way of specimen calculations.

Statistics Finland is looking for ways to reduce enterprises' response burden. Enterprises' response burden is studied with a separate inquiry in connection with direct data collections.

4 November 2008  New Internet portal facilitates searching for statistics
A new Internet portal comprising all Official Statistics of Finland, www. officialstatistics.fi, has been launched on Statistics Finland website. The portal provides access to the latest data of some 300 sets of public administration statistics.

27 October 29008  Support for the True Finns increased in the urban districts of Uusimaa
According to the party analysis produced by Statistics Finland, the True Finns recorded their biggest wins in urban districts as well as districts with unemployment and a low income level.

26 October 29008  The majority of Municipal election candidates are men
Nearly 60 per cent of the Municipal election candidates are men. The proportion of women candidates has grown by only 0.5 percentage points from the previous elections. More information on i.a. the candidates' age, education and income is available in the review produced by Statistics Finland.

21 October 2008  Growth in the number of the employed slowed down in the third quarter
According to the Labour Force Survey of Statistics Finland, employment increased in July-September by an average of 25,000 persons, while in the two preceding quarters the increase averaged 54,000 persons.

Finnish students are challenged into an International Statistical Literacy Competition. The aim of the competition is to improve statistical skills among school students.

16 October 2008  Election information service provides information on Municipal elections
Statistics Finland's free of charge election information service provides diverse statistics, illustrative maps and analyses already during the election night.

13 October 2008  Leena Storgårds appointed Director of Business Structures Department
Ms Leena Storgårds, has been appointed Director of Statistics Finland's Business Structures Department for the five-year term between 1 December 2008 and 30 November 2013.

8 October 2008  Population is ageing in the Nordic countries
The latest Nordic Statistical Yearbook indicates that in the Nordic countries the fewest children per one woman are born in Finland and Denmark, and the most in the Faroe Islands. The proportion of the aged of the population in the Nordic countries is forecasted to increase clearly.

23 September 2008  Number of employed almost unchanged
According to the Labour Force Survey of Statistics Finland, the number of employed persons in August was 2,566,000, or 8,000 higher than a year earlier.

26 August 2008  Number of unemployed decreased in July
According to the Labour Force Survey of Statistics Finland, there were 144,000 unemployed in July 2008. Their number was 17,000 down from one year previously.

22 July 2008  Number of employed persons grew in June
According to the Labour Force Survey of Statistics Finland, the number of employed persons in June was 2,668,000, or 49,000 higher than a year earlier. Among wage and salary earners, the number of full-time employees increased and that of part-time employees decreased.

According to the Labour Force Survey of Statistics Finland, the number of employed persons in April was 2,501,000, or 45,000 higher than a year earlier.

7 May 2008  New service concerning enterprise data collections
Statistics Finland has launched a new service concerning enterprise data collections. It allows enterprises to check their present or past inclusion in Statistics Finland's data collections. The service aims to make it easier for enterprises to prepare for and respond to data collections.

6 May 2008  Monthly Indicator of Total Output is being revised
The calculation of the indicator is being harmonised with the calculation methods of quarterly accounts output. In future the statistics will be published as the Trend Indicator of Output.

24 April 2008  Statistics Finland increases the volume of free of charge data
Statistics Finland has renewed and extended its free of charge statistics database StatFin. Database tables can be found e.g. via the home pages of the statistics.

The Finnish Ministry of Finance has launched a project to explore possibilities of further rationalisation of the national statistical service and decentralisation of functions of Statistics Finland. Statistics Finland regards the speculations presented in the media about the decentralisation of Statistics Finland's functions as premature.

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, the volume of Finland's gross domestic product grew by 4.4 per cent in 2007. Gross domestic product, or the totalled up value added of the goods and services produced, amounted to EUR 179 billion last year.
