Centres for economic development, transport and the environment (ELY Centres) 2021

The purpose of regional classifications used in statistics is to describe regional variations of various phenomena and regional structure. As most regional classifications, the division into Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY centres) are based on the administrative regional division. The ELY centres are government organs and perform the enforcement and development tasks of former employment and economic development centres, regional environmental centres, road districts and State Provincial Offices. The Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY) became effective as of 1 January 2010. They comprise of regions and combinations of regions. The centres are government organs and perform the enforcement and development tasks of former employment and economic development centres, regional environmental centres, road districts and state provincial offices. The areas of responsibility for the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment are business and industry, labour force, competence and cultural activities, transport and infrastructure, and environment and natural resources. The ELY centre classification comprises 15 ELY centres and Åland. Åland does not officially form an ELY centre, but it is included in this classification due to the regional coverage of the classification.

Changes as of 1 January 2021 Heinävesi (090) moved from the South Savo ELY Centre (07) to the North Karelia ELY Centre (09). Iitti (142) moved from the Southeast Finland ELY Centre (06) to the Häme ELY Centre (04). Isokyrö (152) moved from the Ostrobothnia ELY Centre (12) to the South Ostrobothnia ELY Centre (11). Joroinen (171) moved from the South Savo ELY Centre (07) to the North Savo ELY Centre (08). Kuhmoinen (291) moved from the Central Finland ELY Centre (10) to the Pirkanmaa ELY Centre (05). No changes as of 1 January 2020 No changes as of 1 January 2019 1.1.2016 Vaala (785) moved from the region of Kainuu to the region of North Ostrobothnia and thus, from the Kainuu ELY Centre (14) to the North Ostrobothnia ELY centre (13). 1.1.2015 The Swedish abbreviation of the ELY Centre changed into NTM-centralen. The previous abbreviation was ELY-centralen.
