Volume of goods transported by lorries grew

In the third quarter of 2008, the volume of goods transported by lorries in domestic road transport grew by 9 per cent from the corresponding quarter of 2007. Most of the growth came from increased transport of soil materials. The volume of other transported goods diminished by 5 per cent. These data derive from the statistics on domestic goods transport by road compiled by Statistics Finland.

A total of 116 million tonnes of goods were transported by lorries during the July to September period of 2008. The volume of transported soil materials was 66 million tonnes while that of other goods totalled 50 million tonnes. The total transport volume of lorries was 7,189 million tonne-kilometres.
