Transports of soil materials by lorries decreased, transports of other goods increased in January-March 2011

In the first quarter of 2011, the volume of goods transported by lorries in domestic road transport decreased by 12 per cent from the corresponding quarter of 2010. A total of 66 million tonnes of goods were transported by lorries during the January to March period of 2011. The decrease is explained by the transports of soil materials, which halved from the January to March period of 2010. The volume of transports of goods other than soil materials increased by 10 per cent from January-March 2010.

These data derive from the statistics on goods transport by road compiled by Statistics Finland. The method of the statistics on goods transport by road was revised as of the beginning of 2011. The data for 2010 have been recalculated using the new method. The data are not comparable with data published earlier.
