CVTS, Continuing Vocational Training Survey

Description of the data collection

Continuing Vocational Training Survey is an inquiry concerning the volume, quality and costs of training and training strategies of enterprises.

The survey is based on Regulation (EC) No 1552/2005 of the European Parliament and the Council and on the Commission's implementing Regulation No 1153/2014. Data collection is carried out every five years according to Commission regulation, which sets the time table and contents of the inquiry and the methods to gather, process and deliver data.

The statistical period is the calendar year preceding the data gathering.

From whom are data collected?

The inquiry includes private sector enterprises with minimum of 10 employees excluding NACE classes (A) Agriculture, forestry and fishing, (O) Public administration and defence; compulsory social security, (P) Education and (Q) Human health and social work activities.

The data supply obligation of enterprises is based on the Finnish Statistics Act (280/2004).

What are the data used for?

The data are used to guide labour market policy and training policy within EU member states and to identify development needs in working life and education. The information is used by Eurostat, industrial organisations, board of education, research institutes, individual researchers and enterprises.

The Statistics Act obliges Statistics Finland to treat the data as confidential.


The number of variables has been decreased in order to reduce the burden for enterprises.
