Renovation building of dwellings and detached houses

Description of the data collection

Renovations by residents and renovations directed to residential buildings are inquired yearly with a multi-phase sample. The population are persons living in owner-occupied dwellings.

From whom are data collected?

The sample is directed to owner-occupied dwellings in detached houses, terraced houses and blocks of flats. Houses aged under two years are excluded from the inquiry. Renovation building by tenants is believed to constitute only a very small share of all renovations to the dwelling stock. For this reason, to reduce unnecessary response burden, a yearly inquiry will not be used to collect data from tenants. This group can be included in the inquiry periodically, for example, if data are needed to supplement the Household Budget Survey.
Data on residents are obtained for the dwellings drawn to the sample from the population database. The inquiry is directed, for example, to the oldest resident aged under 70, or if no resident aged under 70 can be found, to the youngest resident.
