Business Register inquiry for municipal groups
Description of the data collection
The Business Register inquires yearly data from municipal groups. The data are collected for maintaining the Business Register. The statistical unit is enterprise and obliged to provide data are municipalities. The inquiry is sent to municipalities yearly in March. The data providers use municipalities' annual reports as their primary data sources. The responses can be returned by email.
From whom are data collected?
The inquiry includes all municipalities in operation during the statistical year and the enterprises belonging to the municipal group at the end of the year.
The inquiry is replied to in June - July.
What are the data used for?
The Business Register includes data on enterprises, establishments and groups operating in Finland. The basic variables are industry (Nace code) and personnel. The data are classified according to industry, region, type of ownership and legal form.
The Statistics Act obliges Statistics Finland to treat the data as confidential. According to Section 18 of the Statistics Act, public data include: business identity code, legal form, the name, industry, language code, domicile, address and other contact information, type of owner, the location of activity and establishments, size category of turnover and type classification of entrepreneurial activity, total number of personnel and number of personnel by municipality, whether they are involved in international trade, whether they belong to the value added tax and preliminary tax withholding register, whether they are involved in primary production, whether they operate as an employer, and group relationships of corporations, foundations and self-employed persons. In respect of establishments, data on establishment code, operating time, the name, industry, location, public address and other public contact information, and size category of personnel are public.
