Business Register inquiry for multi-establishment enterprises
Description of the data collection
The Business Register inquires yearly data from multi-establishment enterprises. The data are collected for maintaining the Business Register. The inquiry is sent out to multi-establishment enterprises and corporations during October.
The enterprises respond to the inquiry electronically via the Internet.
From whom are data collected?
The inquiry is sent to all multi-establishment enterprises and corporations and as a collective inquiry jointly with the employment statistics to multi-establishment enterprises with at least five employees. This inquiry covers yearly around 2,500 enterprises.
What are the data used for?
The Business Register includes data on enterprises, establishments and groups operating in Finland. The basic variables are number and personnel. The data are classified according to industry, region, type of ownership and legal form.

The obligation to reply is based on the Statistics Act (Act 280/04), which obliges Statistics Finland to treat the data as confidential. According to Section 18 of the Statistics Act, certain Business Register data are public. For enterprises and corporations public are data concerning the name and address, Business ID, industry, legal form, number of personnel, size category of turnover and personnel, and for establishments the name, address, industry and size category of personnel. According to the Council Regulation (EEC) No 177/2008 on business registers, Statistics Finland is obliged to maintain a Business Register for statistical purposes.
