Road traffic accidents claimed 9 lives in April 2024

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, 155 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in April 2024. In them, 9 persons were killed and 186 persons injured. The number of fatalities was one higher and number of persons injured 41 lower than in April 2023. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Road traffic accidents in January to April

A total of 587 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to April period of 2024 according to preliminary data. In them, 44 persons were killed and 739 persons injured. The number of deaths was five higher and number of persons injured 126 lower than in the corresponding period of 2023.

Of the persons who were killed, 26 travelled by passenger car, three by van, one by moped and one by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered seven and cyclists two. In addition, four other road users were killed.
