Turnover in service industries grew by 13.2 per cent and volume by 6.1 per cent in February 2023

According to Statistics Finland, working day adjusted turnover in service industries grew by 13.2 per cent in February 2023 from February 2022. Service output or volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, grew by 6.1 per cent over the same period. In January 2023, turnover grew of 15.0 per cent and volume correspondingly rose by 7.3 per cent. Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

Turnover growing in main service industries

Among the main service industries, turnover grew most in accommodation and food service activities in February 2023. Working day adjusted turnover in the industry rose by 43,2 per cent from February one year ago while volume grew by 31.0 per cent over the same period. In arts, entertainment and recreation, working day adjusted turnover grew by 21.8 per cent from February 2022.

⁠ In transportation and storage, working day adjusted turnover grew by 13.2 per cent from February 2022 and volume was falling by 3.8 per cent over the same period. The volume development of transport and storage is influenced by a sharp upturn in prices in the industry during 2022.

In February 2023, working day adjusted turnover in other service activities increased by 11.8 per cent from the year before. In administrative and support service activities, working day adjusted turnover rose by 11.4 per cent from February 2022, while volume went up by 3.7 per cent over the same period.

In information and communication activities, working day adjusted turnover grew by 10.3 per cent from February 2022. The volume of information and communication activities went up by 8.2 per cent over the corresponding period.

The working day adjusted turnover of real estate activities rose by 9.3 per cent and volume by 6.1 per cent from February 2022. Professional, scientific and technical activities developed most moderately in other service industries. In February 2023, working day adjusted turnover in the industry grew by 8.3 per cent and volume by 6.5 per cent from the previous year’s February.

Turnover and output decreased from the previous month

Seasonally adjusted turnover in service industries decreased by 0.2 per cent in February 2023 compared to January 2023. Service output or volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, decreased by 0.5 per cent over the same period. In January 2023, turnover grew by 3.2 per cent from December 2022. Over the same period, volume grew by 2.1 per cent.
