Turnover in service industries grew by 7.1 per cent and volume by 3.3 per cent in April 2023

According to Statistics Finland, working day adjusted turnover in service industries grew by 7.1 per cent in April 2023 from April 2022. Service output or volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, grew by 3.3 per cent over the same period. In March 2023, turnover grew of 8.4 per cent and volume correspondingly rose by 3.7 per cent. Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

Turnover growing in main service industries

Among the main service industries, turnover grew most in accommodation and food service activities in April 2023. Working day adjusted turnover in the industry rose by 13.0 per cent from April one year ago while volume grew by 5.2 per cent over the same period. The working day adjusted turnover of other service activities rose by 9.9 per cent from April 2022. Working day adjusted turnover in administrative and support service activities grew by 8.5 per cent in April 2023. At the same time, the volume of the industry rose by 2.7 per cent.

Real estate activities and professional, scientific and technical activities grew at the same rate. The working day adjusted turnover of the industries rose by 8.3 per cent from April 2022. In turn, the volume of real estate activities developed more moderately than that of professional, scientific and technical activities, being 4.7 per cent up from April 2022. The volume of professional, scientific and technical activities grew by 6.4 per cent over the same period.

Working day adjusted turnover in information and communication grew slightly more moderately than the average growth in service industries, as turnover grew by 6.8 per cent from April last year. The volume of the industry developed faster than the average development of the volume of service industries, being good 6.5 per cent up from April 2022.

In arts, entertainment and recreation, working day adjusted turnover grew by 2.5 per cent from April 2022. In transportation and storage, working day adjusted turnover grew by 2.3 per cent in April 2023 from April 2022, while the volume of the industry was falling by 6.4 per cent over the same period. The volume development of transport and storage is influenced by a sharp upturn in prices in the industry during 2022.

Turnover and output grew from the previous month

Seasonally adjusted turnover in service industries rose by 0.5 per cent in April 2023 compared to March 2023. Service output or volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, rose by 0.4 per cent over the same period. In March 2023, turnover grew by 0.2 per cent from February. Over the same period, volume grew by 0.5 per cent.
