Vessels in the regular merchant fleet numbered 712 in August 2024

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, the size of Finland's regular merchant fleet was 712 vessels in August 2024. Small vessels included 279 vessels and barges and other engineless vessels 294 vessels. The total size of the Finnish merchant fleet was 1,285 vessels with gross tonnage of 1,977,692. In August, the number of vessels in the regular merchant fleet decreased by four compared to July.

Key selections

  • Compared to the situation at the turn of the year, the number of vessels in the regular merchant fleet had increased by 30 and the number of vessels in the entire combined merchant fleet by 26 by the end of August 2024.
  • During the early part of 2024, the majority of vessels registered in the merchant fleet are ferries with low gross tonnage that belong to the other ships category.
  • Ferries have been entered in the register of ships as a result of the legislative amendment.
  • The Register of Merchant Vessels, in which vessels operating mainly in foreign traffic can be entered, contained a total of 99 vessels in August 2024.
