Volume of transport in domestic waterborne traffic decreased by 14 per cent in September 2024
According to Statistics Finland’s preliminary data, the total volume of goods transported in domestic waterborne traffic was 0.4 million tonnes in September 2024. Transport in domestic waterborne traffic decreased by 14 per cent compared to September 2023. In September 2024, domestic water transport took place almost only in coastal waterways.

- In September 2024, oil products as well as coal and coke were transported most in domestic waterborne traffic.
- In terms of timber transport, preliminary data are supplemented at the end of the statistical reference year, which will have an effect especially on the transport volumes of inland waters.
- No transport was registered through the Saimaa Canal in September.
Oil products were transported most in domestic waterborne traffic in September
Oil products were transported most, in total 196,220 tonnes, which was 54 per cent of all transport. Coal and coke was transported next most, 54,012 tonnes, making up 15 per cent of all transport. Preliminary data on timber transport are supplemented at the end of the statistical reference year.
