Volume of goods transported by lorries decreased in the second quarter of 2022

According to Statistics Finland's data, a total of 54 million tonnes of goods were transported by lorries in domestic road transport in the second quarter of 2022. Compared with the previous year, the volume of transported goods decreased by 11 per cent. The transport performance grew by one fifth and amounted to 7.3 billion tonne-kilometres.

Correction

The data of the statistics on goods transport by road for the first and second quarters of 2022 were corrected on 13 December 2022 as concerns vehicle mileage and transport performance.

Key selections

  • The total volume of goods transport in domestic road transport was 54 million tonnes in the second quarter of 2022. The volume decreased by 11 per cent from the previous year.
  • Although the transport volume of road transport grew in total by 18 per cent from the previous year, the transport volume of soil materials fell by 36 per cent.
  • The share of transported soil materials made up nearly one-quarter of the volume of goods transported in road transport and six per cent of the transport performance.
  • Ninety-two per cent of the transport volume was transported in professional transport and eight per cent in private transport.
