Finland's preliminary population figure was 5,555,577 at the end of August 2022
According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, Finland's population was 5,555,577 at the end of August. Our country's population increased by 7,336 persons during January–August. The reason for the increase was migration gain from abroad, since immigration exceeded emigration by 16,412. The number of births was 10,623 lower than that of deaths.

Number of births lower than in the previous year
During January–August, 30,306 children were born, which is 3,088 fewer than in the corresponding period in 2021. The number of deaths was 40,929, which is 3,795 higher than one year earlier.
According to the preliminary statistics for January–August, 24,740 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 8,328 persons emigrated from Finland. The number of immigrants was 831 higher and the number of emigrants 101 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 5,383 of the immigrants and 5,375 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
According to the preliminary data, the number of inter-municipal migrations totalled 198,125 during January–August. Compared with the corresponding period in 2021, the decrease was 8,455 migrations according to the municipal division of 2022.
