Trips abroad growing in spring 2022

According to Statistics Finland, significantly more leisure trips abroad with overnight stay were made in January to April 2022 than in the corresponding period of the previous year, when hardly any such trips were recorded in the statistics. Compared to the level before the pandemic, the number of leisure trips abroad was around one half. The number of domestic leisure trips with overnight stay decreased slightly in January to April 2021.

  • In spring 2022 (January to April), the total number of trips with overnight stay was 7.9 million, inclusive of leisure trips and business trips in Finland and abroad.
  • A total of 1.2 million leisure trips abroad were made. This includes trips with overnight stay in the destination country, cruises and same-day trips.
  • In spring 2022, Finnish residents made 6.0 million leisure trips with overnight stay in Finland. The recorded number of overnight stays on these trips was 21.0 million.
  • The number of domestic business trips with overnight stay was roughly one-half of the level prior to the pandemic. The number of business trips abroad remained at roughly one quarter.
