Cubic volume granted for building permits decreased further in May to July 2022 from one year ago

According to Statistics Finland, building permits for newbuilding were granted for 8.5 million cubic metres in May to July 2022, which was 33 per cent less than one year ago. Over the period, building projects totalling 11.1 million cubic metres were started, eight per cent down from one year earlier. Five per cent more residential building projects were started than one year ago.

The cubic volume of building permits granted for newbuilding decreased in May to July 2022 by 33 per cent year-on-year.
In May to July 2022, building permits were granted for a total of 10,536 dwellings, which was 13 per cent lower than one year earlier.
Between May and July, 11.1 million cubic metres of construction projects were started, of which four million cubic metres were residential building projects.
The volume of completed building projects was 8.6 million cubic metres, which was eight per cent more than one year earlier.

Volume of construction still growing

In May to July 2022, the constant-price value or the volume of ongoing building production increased by two per cent year-on-year. The volume of residential building construction increased by seven per cent and that of other than residential building construction decreased by two per cent from one year earlier.
