According to Statistics Finland, the median earnings for regular hours worked by monthly paid wage and salary earners who work full-time and earn full pay in the local government sector were EUR 3,040 per month in 2021. The median earnings of women were EUR 2,974 and those of men EUR 3,442 per month. Eighty-one per cent of the local government sector wage and salary earners were women.

  • The median earnings for regular hours worked were EUR 3,040 per month in 2021. The average for regular earnings was EUR 3,318 and that for total earnings EUR 3,449 per month. On average, EUR 504 of total earnings were regular premiums and EUR 131 irregular premiums.
  • Nurses' earnings for regular hours worked were EUR 3,210 and those of health care assistants EUR 2,920 per month. Medical doctors (generalist medical practitioners, senior physicians and specialists) earned EUR 6,377 per month.
  • The earnings for regular hours worked of primary school teachers were EUR 3,678 per month and those of secondary education teachers EUR 4,089. The earnings of early childhood educators were EUR 2,868 and those of childminders in kindergartens EUR 2,409 per month.
  • Around 4,650 hourly paid wage and salary earners worked in the local government sector. The average median of the average hourly earnings for regular hours worked inclusive of premium pay was EUR 15.65.
