Road traffic accidents claimed 14 lives in March 2023

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 160 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in March 2023. In them, 14 persons were killed and 204 persons injured. The number of persons killed was three higher and that of persons injured 38 higher than in March 2022. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Key selections

  • Of the persons who were killed, seven travelled by passenger car and two by van. Two cyclists and three other road users were killed. No pedestrians died in March.
  • Among those who died, 11 were men and three were women.

Road traffic accidents in January to March

A total of 493 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to March period of 2023. In them, 29 persons were killed and 634 persons injured. The number of persons killed was three lower and that of persons injured 38 lower than in the corresponding period of 2022. Of the persons who were killed, 16 travelled by passenger car and two by van. Pedestrians killed numbered five and cyclists three. In addition, three other road users were killed.
