Road traffic accidents claimed 10 lives in May 2023

Transport and tourismAccording to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 263 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in May 2023. In them, 10 persons were killed and 301 persons injured. The number of persons killed was six lower and that of persons injured eight lower than in May 2022. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Road traffic accidents in January to May
A total of 942 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to May period of 2023. In them, 52 persons were killed and 1,181 persons injured. The number of persons killed was nine lower and that of persons injured 69 lower than in the corresponding period of 2022. Of the persons who were killed, 27 travelled by passenger car, seven by van and three by motorcycle. Pedestrians killed numbered seven and cyclists three. In addition, five other road users were killed.
