Nearly one million household-dwelling units lived in rented dwellings in 2022

release | Dwellings and housing conditions 2022According to Statistics Finland, around 998,000 household-dwelling units lived in rented dwellings at the end of 2022, which was 35 per cent of all household-dwelling units. The share of household-dwelling units living in rented dwellings among all household-dwelling units remained unchanged compared to the previous year. From 2010, the share has grown by five percentage points.

- The number of households living in owner-occupied dwellings was about 1.73 million. The figure was 61 per cent of all household-dwelling units.
- The share of household-dwelling units living in dwellings with other tenure status was three per cent of all household-dwelling units. The share includes right of occupancy dwellings.
- Eighty-one per cent of household-dwelling units of persons aged under 30 lived in rented dwellings.
- The dwelling population living in owner-occupied dwellings amounted to 3.73 million and the dwelling population living in rented dwellings to 1.55 million.
- Of people living alone, 51 per cent lived in rented dwellings and 46 per cent in owner-occupied dwellings.
