Number of comprehensive schools decreased further in 2022

According to Statistics Finland’s register of providers of education and register of educational institutions, there were 685 active providers of education and 3,000 educational institutions. There were 2,039 active comprehensive schools.

Key selections

  • A total of 47 comprehensive schools were closed down or merged with another educational institution
  • Comprehensive schools were closed down or merged with another educational institution most in the regions of Uusimaa and Kymenlaakso
  • Of comprehensive schools, 24 per cent were joint schools, 66 per cent lower secondary schools and nine per cent upper secondary schools.
