Road traffic accidents claimed 17 lives in February 2024

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, 147 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in February 2024. In them, 17 persons were killed and 184 persons injured. The number of fatalities was 13 higher and number of persons injured 36 lower than in February 2023. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Key selections

  • Of the persons who were killed, 10 travelled by passenger car and three by van. Killed pedestrians numbered two. In addition, two other road users were killed.
  • No cyclists were killed in February.
  • Among those who died, 12 were men and five women.

Road traffic accidents in January to February

A total of 304 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to February period of 2024 according to preliminary data. In them, 27 persons were killed and 377 persons injured. The number of deaths was 12 higher and number of persons injured 47 lower than in the corresponding period of 2023. Of the persons who were killed, 15 travelled by passenger car, three by van and one by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered three and cyclists one. In addition, four other road users were killed.
