Finnish travel 2023, 3rd four months of the year

Travel to Sweden and Estonia increased in autumn 2023

According to Statistics Finland, around 5.9 million domestic leisure trips with overnight stay were made in September to December 2023, which is one fifth fewer than one year earlier. The number of leisure trips abroad with overnight stay grew by one tenth, being around 1.9 million in autumn 2023.

  • The number of leisure trips to Sweden and Estonia increased in autumn 2023. Good 0.4 million trips were made to both destination countries.
  • The number of domestic leisure trips with overnight stay continued falling for the second year in a row. The number of trips fell in nearly every region compared with autumn 2022.
  • The number of business trips with overnight stay both in Finland and abroad decreased in autumn 2023. Especially the number of short (one to three nights) business trips went down from the previous autumn.
