Finnish travel 2024, 2nd four months of the year

Trips in Finland and to neighbouring countries increased in summer 2024

According to Statistics Finland, around 10.8 million leisure trips in Finland with overnight stay were made in May to August 2024, which is one tenth more than in summer 2023. The number of leisure trips abroad with overnight stay remained on level with the previous year and was around 2.5 million in summer 2024.

Key selections

  • Altogether 2.9 million leisure trips abroad were made in summer (May to August) 2024, when trips with overnight stay in the destination country, cruises and same-day trips are included.
  • The neighbouring countries had a bigger share of trips than before. Good one half, 1.6 million of leisure trips abroad were made to the Nordic countries or Estonia.
  • The number of domestic leisure trips grew from the previous summer. More trips were made to most regions than in summer 2023.
  • The number of domestic leisure trips with free accommodation grew in particular. This was visible as an increase in the number of overnight stays at free-time residences.
