General government debt grew by EUR 5.7 billion second quarter of 2024
According to Statistics Finland, general government EDP debt, i.e. consolidated gross debt at nominal prices amounted to EUR 219.3 billion in the second quarter of 2024 and grew by EUR 5.7 billion during the quarter. Relative to GDP, general government debt stood at 80.0 per cent. General government debt grew by EUR 15.6 billion compared to the respective period of the year before.

Central government debt grew by EUR 5.2 billion
During the second quarter, central government debt grew by EUR 5.2 billion and was EUR 184.4 billion at the end of the quarter. The stock of long-term bonds increased by EUR 4.1 billion and the stock of short-term debt instruments with a maturity of under one year increased by EUR 1.1 billion. The stock of short-term loans decreased by EUR 0.1 billion and the stock of long-term loans remained unchanged compared to the previous quarter.
Local government sector’s debt increased by EUR 0.6 billion
Local government sector's debt increased by EUR 0.6 billion during the second quarter of 2024 totalling to EUR 35.8 billion at the end of the quarter. The local government sector’s stock of long-term loans grew by EUR 0.4 billion during the quarter and was EUR 32.7 billion at the end of the second quarter.
Social security funds' debt remained unchanged
Social security funds' debt remained unchanged at EUR 1.5 billion second quarter of 2024.
