A total of 1.5 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in April 2024

According to Statistics Finland, altogether 1.5 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in April 2024. The number of passengers was 5 per cent higher than in April 2023. The number of passengers on domestic flights increased by 4 per cent and on international flights by 5 per cent from the previous year.

More than 80 per cent of air traffic passengers travelled on international flights

In April 2024, a total of 1.3 million passengers flew through Helsinki Airport and altogether 190,000 passengers flew through other domestic airports. Of all passengers, 97 per cent travelled on scheduled flights.

Eighty-one per cent of the air traffic passengers travelled on international flights and 19 per cent on domestic flights. The share of passengers on international flights was 89 per cent at Helsinki Airport and 27 per cent in total at other domestic airports.

Compared to April 2023, the total number of passengers was 5 per cent higher at Helsinki Airport and 2 per cent higher at other domestic airports. Among the domestic airports, the airports of Jyväskylä, Pori and Savonlinna stood out with increased passenger numbers.

In April 2024, air freight and mail transport totalled 14,682 tonnes. In all, 99 per cent of the tonnes were transported through Helsinki Airport and 99 per cent in traffic between Finland and foreign countries. Altogether 7,054 tonnes (48 %) of the transported volume of goods were incoming and 7,628 tonnes (52 %) were outgoing.
