THL will discontinue its own restaurant inquiry at the end of 2023.
Data will still be sent to the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare in October
The last inquiry of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare concerns the price data for October. An invitation to the inquiry will be posted in October.
Statistics Finland collects data from restaurants starting from November 2023.
Data collected from restaurants are used in the consumer price index that measures inflation
According to EU Regulation (792/2016) on the consumer price index, the price development of alcoholic beverages must be monitored monthly. Data are collected approximately every two months from the restaurants included in the sample as the data collection is divided into periods. Statistics Finland's updated sample comprises around 200 licensed restaurants.
The collected data are mainly used in the consumer price index published by Statistics Finland. The index describes the price development of goods and services purchased by households in Finland monthly and it is used as a general measure of inflation.
