The National Land Survey of Finland changed the delimitation rules for its statistics on numbers of residential properties on 6 February 2025. As a result of the change, the number of transactions of one-dwelling houses has increased in the National Land Survey's statistics. The number of transactions of built real estate has increased especially in 2023 to 2024. The number of transactions of these one-dwelling houses is now 15 to 20 per cent higher in the statistics than before the change in delimitation rules.
Due to the change, the numbers of transactions of one-dwelling houses published by Statistics Finland differ from the numbers of transactions recorded by the National Land Survey. The criterion according to the previous calculation of numbers has also been used to calculate the price index published by Statistics Finland. Thus, the change may also impact the price indices of old one-dwelling houses and data on prices per square metre.
For the numbers of transactions published by Statistics Finland to be consistent with the data of the National Land Survey, the method of calculating the numbers of transactions will be changed. At the same time, it will be examined to what extent the change impacts the price indices of old one-dwelling houses and prices per square metre, and the necessary adjustments will be made.
