Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies PIAAC
The Finnish Institute for Educational Research at the University of Jyväskylä in cooperation with Statistics Finland carried out a survey at the initiative of the OECD, where assessed are the various basic skills needed by the adult population in different areas of life, as well as their application to work and everyday living. The topics of interest are skills people need in their everyday life: literacy, numeracy and problem-solving skills. The survey is carried out simultaneously in 32 countries around the world.
The PIAAC survey in Finland is financed by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. The abbreviation PIAAC stands for the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies.
Statistics Finland collects the data through interviews. A random sample of 12 000 persons aged 16-65 living in Finland has been selected for the survey.
