Generational transmissions (Gentrans)

In 2018, Statistics Finland collected data for the Generational transmissions in Finland survey (Gentrans). The survey was commissioned and carried out by the Population Research Institute within the Family Federation of Finland. The data collection has been carried out three times. The previous data collections were carried out in 2007 and 2012.

What is being studied?

The Generational transmissions in Finland survey looks at the interaction between generations. The study focuses on the baby boomers born between 1945 and 1950 and their children.

The survey collects information not only on contact and assistance between relatives but also between friends. This kind of informal help between people is beyond the reach of official statistics. However, information on the extent of this can be obtained by asking.
