Prices of agricultural production inputs still rising in the first quarter of 2023

According to Statistics Finland, the purchase prices of the means of agricultural production rose by 7.7 per cent in the first quarter of 2023. Agricultural production commodities and services cost 6.7 per cent more and investments 10.5 per cent more than one year ago. The prices of feed grains, fertilisers and heating oils decreased from one year ago.

Key selections

  • The price of energy used in agriculture went up by 15 per cent in the first quarter of 2023. The price of electricity rose most, by nearly 36 per cent.
  • The prices of animal fodder rose by good 17 per cent in the first quarter of 2023. This was because although the prices of feed grains fell by good one tenth, forage mixtures cost nearly one fifth more than one year ago.
  • However, there has been a turn towards a fall in the prices of agricultural production inputs, because the prices of agricultural production inputs fell compared to the previous quarter for the first time since summer 2020.
