According to Statistics Finland, the value of new orders in manufacturing was 2.1 per cent lower in December 2022 than twelve months earlier. During 2022, orders rose by 6.4 per cent from the previous year.

Changes in the examined main industries in December

Orders decreased in December 2022 most in the manufacture of paper and paper board products, where the value of new orders was 12.0 per cent lower than one year ago. Orders decreased by 7.0 per cent in the chemical industry. The value of orders in the metal industry was 1.9 per cent higher in December than one year before.

When interpreting these statistics, it should be borne in mind that they typically show strong fluctuations by month. Even new orders of substantial value are not examined over extended time periods but for the statistical reference month only.

Changes in the course of 2022

During the whole year 2022, new orders grew by 6.4 per cent year-on-year. In the last quarter of the year in October to December, orders decreased by 2.1 per cent year-on-year.

During 2022, orders increased most in the chemical industry, where the value of orders was 17.1 per cent higher than one year earlier. In the metal industry, orders grew by 5.6 per cent and in the manufacture of paper and paper board products by 2.2 per cent.
