Turnover in trade grew by 1.2 per cent in May 2023

Growth in motor vehicle trade continued in May

Among the main industries of trade, turnover grew strongest in motor vehicle trade, where working day adjusted turnover grew by 15.4 per cent and sales volume by 10.7 per cent in May from one year back.

Working day adjusted turnover in the trade industry with the biggest turnover, wholesale trade, decreased in May by 4.0 per cent but sales volume grew by 2.2 per cent year-on-year.

In retail trade, working day adjusted turnover grew by 3.8 per cent in May but the volume of sales decreased by 1.8 per cent. The turnover of daily consumer goods trade increased by 7.3 per cent from one year back, while the volume of sales decreased by 0.7 per cent in the corresponding period. The turnover of department store trade grew by 5.2 per cent, but the volume of sales went down by 2.7 per cent year-on-year. In specialised store trade, turnover increased by 0.1 per cent and the volume of sales decreased by 4.1 per cent.

Seasonally adjusted turnover grew compared to April

Seasonally adjusted turnover in total trade increased by 0.4 per cent in May compared to April. Seasonally adjusted sales volume went up by 0.7 per cent. In April, seasonally adjusted turnover increased by 1.4 per cent and sales volume by 2.4 per cent compared to the month before.
