Production of biogas remained on level with the previous year in 2022
releaseAccording to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, 0.8 per cent less biogas was produced than in 2021. The production of biogas totalled 3,287 terajoules (TJ). Of this amount 2,902 TJ was consumed and the remaining 385 TJ (12%) was flared. The amount of biogas recovered by landfill plants decreased by six per cent, but the amount of biogas produced by other plants producing biogas by decomposition of organic materials grew by a total of three per cent.

- Fifty-four per cent of the biogas was produced in co-processing plants, where the amount of biogas produced grew by three per cent.
- The amount of biogas produced by biogas plants connected to wastewater treatment plants grew by 0.6 per cent.
- Biogas production in plants utilising agricultural input grew by seven per cent.
- The amount of biogas flared increased by 15 per cent from the previous year. Of all biogas produced in 2022, altogether 12 per cent was flared (10 per cent in 2021).
