Price index of public expenditure rose in local government finances and in central government 4th quarter 2023

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, the price index of public expenditure rose in central government by 3,8 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2023 compared with one year earlier. The price index of local government finances rose by 4,6 per cent and the price index of basic municipal services by 3,9 per cent over the same period.

Correction

The release of database table 11mj was delayed for technical reasons. The table was released at 9.30.

Key selections

The rise in the price index of central government expenditure was mainly caused by current transfers to municipalities, joint municipal authorities and wellbeing services counties , and by cost increases of paid pensions ja wages and Salaries.
The rise in the price index of local government finances was mainly due to growth in personel costs and purchases of goods and services.
