According to Statistics Finland's Labour Force Survey, the average number of employed persons aged 15 to 74 was 2,628,000 and that of unemployed persons was 204,000 in 2023. There were 8,000 more employed and 14,000 more unemployed persons than in the year before. For those aged 20 to 64, the employment rate was 77.9 per cent in 2023. The employment rate fell by 0.2 percentage points from 2022.

The employment rate of persons aged 20 to 64 was 77.9 per cent in 2023, which was 0.2 percentage points lower than in 2022. The employment rate of men aged 20 to 64 fell from the previous year by 0.6 percentage points to 77.9 per cent and that of women grew by 0.3 percentage points to 78.0 per cent.
The employment rate of persons aged 15 to 64 was 73.6 per cent in 2023, which was 0.3 percentage points lower than in 2022. The employment rate of men aged 15 to 64 fell from the previous year by 0.8 percentage points to 73.1 per cent and that of women grew by 0.3 percentage points to 74.1 per cent.
In 2023, the number of employed persons aged 15 to 74 increased most in education (P) and manufacturing (C). The number of employed persons decreased most in wholesale and retail trade (G).
In 2023, the average number of unemployed persons aged 15 to 74 was 204,000, which was 14,000 more than in 2022. The number of unemployed men was 115,000 and that of women 89,000 in 2023.
In 2023, the unemployment rate of people aged 15 to 74 stood at 7.2 per cent, which was 0.4 percentage points higher than in 2022. Men's unemployment rate was 7.9 per cent, while it was 7.1 per cent in 2022. The unemployment rate of women was 6.5 per cent, having been 6.4 per cent in the year before.

The number of hours worked by employed persons was 4,081.5 million hours in 2023, which was 0.5 per cent lower than one year before.
In 2023, the number of part-time employed persons was 488,000, which was 18.6 per cent of all employed persons. The share of persons working part-time of all employed persons was the same as one year previously.
The most common reason for working part-time in 2023 was studying, which was reported by 136,000 persons or 27.7 per cent of those working part-time. In all, 108,000 or 22.2 per cent worked part-time because full-time work was not available. Their number was 5,000 lower than in the previous year.
In 2023, the number of persons aged 15 to 74 in the inactive population was 1,299,000, which was 11,000 fewer than in 2022. The number of women in the inactive population decreased and that of men remained almost unchanged.
