Cubic volume of granted building permits increased slightly in March to May 2024 year-on-year
release | Building and dwelling production 2024, MayAccording to Statistics Finland, building permits for newbuilding were granted for a total of 9.2 million cubic metres in March to May 2024, which was six per cent more than one year earlier. Over the same period, building projects totalling 5.9 million cubic metres were completed, which was 38 per cent down from one year earlier.

- During March to May 2024, the cubic volume of building permits granted for residential buildings decreased by eight per cent year-on-year and the cubic volume of other than residential building construction grew by nine per cent.

Cubic volume covered by granted building permits was bigger than one year ago in 10 regions
Measured by cubic volume, most building permits for newbuilding were granted in Uusimaa and Pirkanmaa in March to May 2024. In 10 regions the cubic volume granted in March to May exceeded that of the previous year.
The cubic volume of completed building projects was highest in Uusimaa and Southwest Finland during March to May. Among the regions, the cubic volume of building projects completed increased only in Satakunta, Åland and North Savo compared to one year ago.
On the level of the whole country, 4,855 new dwellings were completed in building projects in March to May, which was 50 per cent fewer than in the corresponding period one year earlier. Among the regions, most dwellings were completed in Uusimaa, 2,352. Compared with the previous year, the number of completed new dwellings increased only in the regions of Åland and North Karelia.
