Exports and imports of services decreased in the fourth quarter of 2023

According to Statistics Finland, the value of service exports decreased by 16 % in the fourth quarter of 2023 compared to the corresponding quarter of the year before. The value of service imports decreased by 5 % over the same period. The value of service exports was EUR 8.3 billion and service imports EUR 10.6 billion in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Change

Starting from the release on 12 February 2024, the actual quarterly publication will be released in the schedule of the former instant preliminary data. The change concerns the statistics on international trade in goods and services.

  • Exports of goods and services decreased by EUR 3.9 billion (-12 %) in the fourth quarter of 2023 compared to the previous year.
  • Imports of goods and services decreased by EUR 4.5 billion (-13 %).
  • The value of goods exports decreased by EUR 2.3 billion and the value of goods imports decreased by EUR 4.0 billion from previous year. The balance of trade in goods was EUR 3.0 billion in surplus.
  • The services account weakened by EUR 1.1 billion from previous year and was EUR 2.3 billion in deficit. The main reason for the weakening of the services account was the decrease in exports of services. The export of services decreased the most due to the weak development of the export of telecommunications, computer and information services.
