Turnover in service industries grew by 2.0 per cent in September 2024

According to Statistics Finland, working day adjusted turnover in service industries grew by 2.0 per cent in September 2024 from September 2023. Service output or volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, grew by 0.1 per cent over the same period. In August 2024, turnover grew of 4.1 per cent and volume correspondingly rose by 2.3 per cent. Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

Turnover growing in service industries

In service industries, growth in September 2024 was strongest in information and communication activities, where turnover rose by 4.2 per cent and volume by 3.4 per cent from September 2023. Turnover and volume in real estate activities also grew from September 2023. Working day adjusted turnover in the industry increased by 2.8 per cent and volume by 1.8 per cent.

Among the main service industries, working day adjusted turnover grew in September 2024 in arts, entertainment and recreation by 1.9 per cent, in accommodation and food service activities by 1.3 per cent, in transportation and storage by 1.2 per cent, and in professional, scientific and technical activities by 1.1 per cent from September 2023. Over the corresponding period, the volumes of the industries fell. In accommodation and food service activities, the volume fell by 1.0 per cent, in transportation and storage by 0.4 per cent, and in professional scientific and technical activities by 2.0 per cent.

Among the main service industries, turnover developed weakest in other service activities, where turnover went down by 1.3 per cent from September 2023. Correspondingly, working day adjusted turnover in administrative and support service activities decreased by 0.9 per cent, while the volume of the industry contracted most, being 3.3 per cent lower than in September 2023.

Turnover and volume falling from the previous month

Seasonally adjusted turnover in service industries fell by 1.4 per cent in September 2024 compared to August. Service output or volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, fell by 1.2 per cent over the same period. In August 2024, turnover rose by 0.9 per cent and volume by 0.6 per cent from July.
