A total of 1.7 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in March 2024

According to Statistics Finland, altogether 1.7 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in March 2024. The number of passengers was 2 per cent higher than in the previous year, but a quarter less than before the corona pandemic. The number of passengers on domestic flights decreased by 3 per cent, while the number of passengers on international flights increased by 5 per cent compared to March 2023.

The number of passengers on international flights increased from the previous year

In March 2024, a total of 1.3 million passengers flew through Helsinki Airport and altogether 360,000 passengers flew through other domestic airports. Of all passengers, 95 per cent travelled on scheduled flights.

Altogether 73 per cent of air traffic passengers, or around 1.2 million, travelled on international flights. The share of passengers on international flights was 83 per cent at Helsinki Airport and 38 per cent in total at other domestic airports.

Compared to March 2023, the total number of passengers was one per cent higher at Helsinki Airport and 8 per cent higher at other domestic airports. Among the domestic airports, the airports of Rovaniemi, Kuusamo, Ivalo, Vaasa and Savonlinna stood out with more than a quarter of increased passenger numbers.

In March 2024, air freight and mail transport totalled 15,732 tonnes. In all, 100 per cent of the tonnes were transported through Helsinki Airport and 99 per cent in traffic between Finland and foreign countries. Altogether 7,396 tonnes (47 %) of the transported volume of goods were incoming and 8,336 tonnes (53 %) were outgoing.
